It’s time for another issue of the LB Bulletin! Before we jump in, here's a reminder of who we are!
Let’s dive right in! The Great Limit Break Con-MigrationThis month, the Limit Break team were spread far and wide during the first weekend, with Paul at Octocon, Mari and Colin at LICAF and Seamus and Gary at Cork Comic Con. Prepare for pictures and write-ups! Cork Comic ConWritten in 3rd Person by Seamus Limit Break Comics is a collective of 9 Irish creatives; 3 of them are from Cork (with another in a neighbouring county). So, what happens when Cork hosts its second Cork Comic Con at Marina Market? Seamus travels from Dublin to represent Limit Break Comics, accompanied by only 1x Cork comic creative from LB. I mean yeah, that sounds bad on paper, but there was great interest at his table with both his own books and the LB anthologies so boom, take that! For real, it was a class event; loads of people and loads of interest in comics. There was a Limit Break panel on the Sunday with CCC Guest Rory McConville and LB’s Gary Moloney, focused on writing for comics. Rory’s portfolio includes Time Before Time and Spawn through Image Comics, 2000AD, Red Sonja through Dynamite Entertainment and the recently released Archie vs Terminator. Rory had lots to say about the writing and research process, complimented also by Gary who gave great insight into his own rituals and successful methods to achieve his writing goals in a timely manner. Beyond Limit Break, Cork’s own Cork Comic Creators group launched another of their successful anthologies, themed Cork by Night. Seamus was fortunate to moderate a panel with Editor Kevin Smith and a few of his fellow creatives on the book on the Saturday of the event. All in, there was great energy and great enthusiasm for comics at the 2026 Cork Comic Con, all in a venue that equally matches the vibe of comic books. Nice! The Lakes International Comic Arts FestivalWith Colin and Mari at the Lakes International Comics Arts Festival, we've got a few photos from the weekend. Two pieces of art from the European Comics exhibition at LICAF. While panels were underway, artists also took to the big screen to illustrate! OctoconWritten in 1st Person by Paul This was my 10th Octocon (both consecutively and in total) and only the first time it’s been out of Leinster. While Seamus was off shilling my wares in the Marina Market, I was in the Clayton Hotel in Cork yapping on panels all weekend. Anyone who saw my programme schedule for the weekend will wonder why I signed up to speak on six panels and run a workshop, and honestly? Same. While it was exhausting, it remains one of the highlights of my year. I’ve been to Octocon in many capacities, starting as a trader before attempting to speak on programme, and then joining the team before taking over as Chair for two years, and I can honestly say that every bit of it has been a blast. I can also say that I definitely don’t want to return to working on the event, but that’s purely because I wouldn’t have time for it in my schedule. I’ll stick to attempting to make sense while discussing a broad array of subjects, from comics and crowdfunding to fairytales and horror franchises, and novellas and TV shows. Next year, the con continues its out of Dublin experience by paying a visit to Waterford, where I shall spend yet another weekend annoying Helen Carroll (no relation, as far as we know and can be bothered to check.) I didn’t take many pictures, so this is all you get: an elevator selfie before it all began (above), and a closing ceremony selfie with Helen and Colm. New York Comic ConA week later, Mari was at New York Comic Con, making everyone jealous. DCAFAt the same time, Paul was at DCAF, attempting to bring as many books as possible to the event. Thus ended a month of so many events. EventsNovember 2026

Thought Bubble MapsThe Gang are off to Thought Bubble next month! As usual, Paul has put together some maps to show where the Irish creators and the LB contributors can be found throughout the convention. You can find us at Redshirt table C19. It’ll mostly be Paul on Saturday, with Gary joining on Sunday. Mari and James may occasionally be bullied into helping. Award SeasonChaotic Neutral, from Mari Rolin and Rodrigo Ortiz nominated for a Troféu HQMIX award in the Comedy category! Heavy MetalThe Extreme Futurism issue of Heavy Metal finally reached shelves! This was Paul’s debut in the magazine, with an article on policing borders in a world in which teleportation is real, and the issues it presents. Taking a few lessons from his day job, he addressed things like customs regulations but through a sci-fi lens. Fun fact! Back in the Before Times, Paul was an SEO copywriter for a Dublin-based marketing company. He mostly wrote about translation and interpretation services, despite having never worked in those industries. Raising VoicesMari will be taking part in the Dublin Book Festival as part of the Raising Voices Showcase. The event takes place on Saturday 7th November at 5:00 pm, in Bartley’s Lounge at The Grafton Hotel. Prose from PaulBefore he got bullied into writing comics, Paul was strictly a writer of prose fiction. At the moment, he’s serialising a novella on his Ko-fi and Patreon: The Church of the Enamoured Death. The first chapter is free, the rest is Members-only.
He’s also been updating the series timeline on his website, because as it grows it’s getting more complicated. Watch this space as Paul becomes more insufferable about his “weird little universe” over the next couple of years. *** And breathe! November is another big month for the gang, with Mari at the Dublin Book Festival, several of us in Harrogate and then Paul spending the next couple of weekends at events in Dublin. If you see us, come say hi! Until next time! |
